So many people tell me: “Ramona you’re wasting your time! Really—Congo? With all the political unrest, enabled by an outside world determined to control the richest natural resources in the world, why are you wasting your time in the Democratic Republic of the Congo?”
Some who know me may wonder “has she lost her mind… “? Others, who have taken the time to travel with me on one or more of my 20 trips will simply say “it has to be a calling because she keeps going back, and it’s clear that the people love Mama Ramona.
So let me answer all of you, all the naysayers, all those who have doubts about what can come from what used to be called “deepest darkest Africa.
I go because I believe in this community, their dignity, courage, and determination.
I work with a faith-based community called the Kimbanguiste church. They are the largest indigenous Christian church on the continent of Africa. Worldwide they number in excess of 25 million followers, the majority of Congolese roots. They have risen above the racial bias of exclusion throughout history. They have survived the challenge of unspeakable acts of violence and terrorism. They live within their means, work within their capacities, and welcome the honorable intentions of potential partners who would work constructively and respectfully with them.
Just to give you a small glimpse of what they have done for themselves:
So, please join me so that WE can partner with the Kimbanguiste church, and build an Urgent Care Clinic in a little village of 20,000 called Nkamba. This first $50,000 is designed for my travel, the planning process, drawing the plans, setting up the construction team, and obtaining a generator and construction supplies. Thereafter, I will come back to you with the progress report.
